I think the rep points a a pretty good idea. Not for a tally, but for giving private encouragement and or criticism.

I've just given my first NEGATIVE Rep point, has anyone else given of recieved a negative point? Don't need details, just wondering.

I got a bluey from someone for being helpful !!! Couldn't work it out. He thanked me as well, must have been a mistake. What colour are the disapprove ones ?

Sturdee

Having made an issue about the original anonimity of the points system I don't give negative points but will readily give positive points if the contribution to the board deserves it. And in that case I identify myself and give the reason for it.

If there is an issue, or post, I feel strongly critical about I make my view known in open forum.

But sometimes this has incurred me the wrath  of others and I have received a few raspberries.

If it is blue it means that the giver does not have enough points to issue a valid one. It is not counted.

A valid disapproval one is red.

I haven't given any negative ones yet. I've given heaps of good ones and I have received many good ones which are always appreciated.

Like Sturdee I normally make my feelings quite clear and I do it publicly.

I have to admit I don't give out rep points, or want to receive them. I feel they are irrelevant to what this forum is about. Disapproval points can only be a provocation to pointless quarrelling. I come here to learn from people who know more than I do, to provide helpful information where I can, or sometimes just to socialize with fellow woodworkers. I enjoy spending time here, and don't need to be told whether I have done well or badly.

Is this the monthly Rep Points Thread?:D

Given Red ones? - Only one as a controlled experiment with Shane's knowledge! (Maybe he could use his super-moderator's power to reverse it!)

To anyone else? Definitely NOT (although in the early confusion it seems that the negative default stayed after Shane's so if you got one from me accidentally please let me know and I'll reverse it!)

I've had one which wasn't earned under the circumstance, but that would make up for the dozen or show I deserved! ;)

I like the idea of the positive ones, dish 'em out when the post has been helpful (or makes me laugh - which a lot of serious ones do!), but can't say that my own behaviour has been modified because of them!

On the other hand, I think issuing negative points privately is a particularly gutless and non-constructive pastime. If I disagree so strongly with someone that I think they deserve a serve, I'll give it to 'em in public where they can defend themselves, and where I can judge how far off the mark I may be!! (Same goes if I get one, don't expect it to stay between you and me!! :p :p :p )

At the end of the day I'm here to get help, help if I can:eek: even if that is simply to provide a different point of view, have fun, and if someone else gets a kick out of that, well isn't that fantastic too!!

:D :D :D

Hope I die laughing,

P

please send me as many negative points as you can, I want to see what happens, will I be ejected for being a nasty pasty? Will have ALL of my posts deleted or will he just lock the thread in case someone enjoys themself too much? Will Neil insist on making me a "boss" again because I have acheived total scumdom? Will it make absolutely no difference whatsoever to anyone at all? (which is what I suspect will be the outcome)

Ooooh....I suspected that! Very strange too, because I'm in the habit of writing an essay with each tick - no comment there?

That was me birfday and all!!! Hardly a day for handing out bad stuff!

On the assumption that it was you and it was a nasty red one, could you please PM me with the unmodified version so's I can track down the post?

In the meantime...one greenie to bring you back to square as soon as poss! (I have to spread some round first apparently).

Please accept my humblest apology for any negative stress caused!

Anyone else?

I have only ever given out one red one and that was to Shane Watson. It was not for anything that he had said or done, I just thought that it was unfair that as a moderator he was given a full house of points without actually having to earn them. I wanted to see if it made a difference to his rating. It didn't, but it did to mine because he immediately returned the compliment. :)

Of late there has not been much movement in my reputation points either way so it looks as though it may be just a passing fad.

Mwahahahaha! Feel the wrath ;) :p ;) :p ;)

Seems most people use that excuse when giving me rep points. 'You got too many & you didn't earn them so take that!' :D hehehe.. Grain of salt..

Actually back when you gave me the point Bob, the points system was still annonoymous, but having special super powers like us admin / mod super heros do, we were always able to see who gave what to us. Mind you I think it took us a couple of days to realise that you 'normal' folk couldn't... ;)

I take the whole thing as a bit of fun, not as some type of personal attack against me, of the two reds I have given they were both in jest (I trust you realise that Bob) Sure it got out of hand at first, but its settled down. From what I can see people are now using the system as it should be used.

Have fun people, lifes too short!

Tried to give you a red one just after you posted (because I am such a nice guy and nearly always do what others ask of me) but, like the other guys, the system would not let me. Cannot remember when I gave you a Greenie but looks like I'll have to wait a bit to give you what you ask (or deserve hehe).

Brudda,

The fumes and fields of the valley must have positively energised your thought process.

You are right, that scoundrel Christopha wants to be pleased with red points and most of us feel bad about giving red points. This enhances his enjoyment even more he has the characteristics of a maniac.

The question is of course - how do we deal with him? Give him Greenies?

What you need to realise with him and other masochists, is to give them what they want (pain or red jelly beans)gives them pleasure, to deny them that pleasure must surely give them extra pain, and a higher llever of enjoyment.
