Hi all,
Can some one tell me what is the best speed to turn spindles and wood that is being turned into box's and pens and so on? I have a variable speed lathe and i am nnot sure what is the best speed to use it at.

As high as it can go for pens... 3000+ is best but my lathe only does 2000 so that is what i use.
Small spindles anywhere from 1000-3000 depending on diameter and weight. Just make sure the blank is balanced and secure before throwing the speed up high.

A speed just under vibration level and also one that doesn't frighten the beejesus out of ya.

Also not so fast that the tool won't cut.
