Hi everyone,

Ive been given an Onions and Co plane. It is 43cm long, the blade is 4.5cm wide. It is very well used. I'll post some piccies later today whn the sun arrives.

Does anyone have links to the history of Onion & Co. Googling just takes me to blogs about onion jam and the like.

Tsk, tsk... It's not much, but Google gives you this:
General Metal and Holloware (http://www.localhistory.scit.wlv.ac.uk/Museum/metalware/general/shaw.htm)
(last few sentences of the article). It's a start.

From Goodman, "British Planemakers":

Made a wide range of tools in Deritend Works, Floodgate, Birmingham from 1894-1904.

From Google:
They were taken over by John Shaw & Sons Ltd, Wolverhampton before 1906.Shaw may have continued to use the Onions brand after the takeover (a common practice, eg I & J Sorby was used as a brand for decades after being bought out).

Cheers
