Hi all
on my last trip down to the family at Bodalla I was lucky to pick up some nice dry burls from the timber guy at Bodalla not to mention some serious stuff that I rescued from his scrap heap:D:D
the first one is a red gum burl cap and finished up 300 x100 high at the time of the pic it has had 5 coats of DO
the second one is a brown Mallee Burl and it sure gave the MC900 a good work out finished up 250x 100 also 5 coats of DO I will probably put 3-4 more coats on and buff in a week or so
can't wait to get back down and see what else I can scrounge

Graham, looking to the ferm grip on the gouge tells me it's pretty hard stuff to turn.
But the bowls are looking very well. Keep up your good work.

That brown malee with the bark inclusions is sensational!

You must be chuffed with the score :2tsup:

Cheers,
Dave

Is the brown mallee easier or harder to turn than red mallee?
I turned some red mallee today and it was like rocks!

it turns a bit like concrete I use a home made roughing tool with a tool steel insert ground almost flat and aroun a 60 degree cutting angle a bit like a sharp scraper to rough out then finish with scrapers
