To help keep my sanity, can we use this thread to post your final orders. That is, once you've looked through the site, discussed whatever you want to in the other thread and decided you're over your budget enough :), then post your wish list here.

This thread is not for discussions. When you've posted your list, I'll give you final pricings when it is worked out, and you can add, delete or amend at that time via PM/Email with me. This will help me keep a succinct list of who wants to buy stuff, and quantities of each item we need

Thanks. Russell.

Heh, you did add a few. Can I just confirm that you meant to change the Delrin Sierra Vista Bushing to the standard Sierra? I thought it strange you had the Vista ones in, since it's uncommon here.

Just a note for everyone on postage.

As I haven't a clue whether your order will fit in a 500g bag, or have to step up to 3Kg when it arrives, and how much repacking will have to happen, I'm not going to be able to give final costs until everything arrives. Time to clear out that credit card bill.

I will be able to provide item costs once the order is placed, so just allow either $6 for 500g or $10 for 3Kg post by normal parcel post (I'm rounding up to the nearest $$ to cover bubblewrap etc). If you want upgraded post, discuss with me personally. Those who have already paid and are having their nibs shipped together, will just be the difference from what you've paid already.

they don't need to be carded (and blue pls)

and yep I'd made a mistake with the Sierra Delrin originally and thought I'd changed it - a double check had me notice the mistake

Those totals ae just the US$ item prices. Once I've placed the order and worked out the conversion costs, I'll send everyone their AUS$ totals, but we'll still have to add postage once I have the goods and work out the package sizes.

Well I figured I didn't need to post my list, since I can confirm my own order :p

As to the other thing, I really appreciate the offer, and while I am not the sort of person who accepts gratuities easily, since I can't stop you doing it, without playing bank transfer tag, then if you do participate, I will 'compensate" you by including some of my resin casting blank "experiments" in your package. Thankyou all for your kind words and actions on my participation. I just like to help.

Oh, for the curious amongst you, my total is around $140 from memory (don't have the list on me atm), including an Autism blank now. It was over $160 originally, so I did a lot of trimming.

Sorry but I didn't track properly who said they were happy to combine their nib and exotic packages into one mailing. To save my sanity by trying to decompile this thread and my PM's, I'd like to assume the everyone who is in both buys (which is everyone except Amos) is happy to have them bundled together?

If you were in the nib buy a d want your nibs now, and the exotic stuff later, please reply and let me know. I'm still waiting fo rthe first exotic package to arrive, and have not heard from Ed or Dawn for over a week as to actually paying for their orde yet!

Meanwhile, the first package arrived today. I spent a smelly, drippy afternoon in the 35+ degree heat sorting what we have so far into people's orders. A couple are complete, but most, including the bigger ones, have bits missing. I'm trying to find out how far away the second package may be. Will keep you informed.

Right,

So I just got an email from Ed with the spreadsheet of final prices (although in a format I can't read :-). They have been awaiting arrival of the final items for the order, so have not sent the second box yet. This is likely to mean that the chances of everyone getting their packages before Christmas is slim. If anyone wants what I have already, I can send it off, but you'll be up for two lots of postage. I have to go weigh some of the bigger parcels too, but I think a couple of people are going to be over the 500g parcel size, and into the 3Kg size now as well.

If you're happy to get it when you can, as cheaply as possible, just sit tight and I'll keep you updated. If you want to change your arrangements, let me know. I'll finish getting ready the couple of orders that are completed and let those people know within the next day or two.

Paypal strikes again!

I hate the be the bearer of bad news, but it seems there's some "fees and charges" that may be involved in our transaction that I wasn't aware of until now. I'm trying to work with Ed to find ways to minimise. Means a couple more days delay paying while I re-arrange my finances.

Meanwhile I found out what caused the $$ to drop. Darn Dubai.I don't know if this means the dollar will continue to drop or not, so I think as soon as I have the payment organised, we'll have to jump in and complete the purchase. May mean we're looking at a couple % increase on the conversion costs though. The paypal exchange rate this morning was 88c, which means we're approaching our cost being 15% higher than the US price.

Stay tuned

Russell.

Well, I've decided no matter what the AUD does, tomorrow or Wednesday at the latest I will finalise the transaction. When that's done I'll get totals out to everyone ASAP with their order amounts.

I know a couple of you offered to "donate" to help with my autism kit. What I've decided is, if you're still keen, I'll "sell" you some of my random blanks - resin or wood, your choice, for $4 each, to offset the kit price.

Those who wish to help out, let me know, and I'll include a random blank of my chosing in your parcel and add $4 to the final bill total for your order. I hope that sounds fair. No pressure on anyone if no one wants to do it, I'm good either way.

Russell.

That sound good to me :D
Put me down for 4 wood blanks and if my total for example is $1236 add 1 more to round it up to $1240 even if it takes 2

Thank you again for this Russell

Ok everyone,

Payment has been made. There was a total of about 4% extra in fees I'm afraid, so the adjust exchange rate I've used is 0.87c.

I'll send itemised lists of everyone's order with the total converted amount to pay to everyone along with my bank details. Remember we still need to await arrival of the second box before I can send any more packages out though.

Received my order last night, thanks Russell :2tsup:

I have ripped my old pelican ink and nib out of my Baron FP and installed a nice, shiny new Heritance Small Fine nib in with some "Black Magic Blue" (dark blue in any other language!) ink.

Took a little while to get the ink flowing, but this is far more likely to be due to me bing a muppet at changing nibs than any fault of the ink, nib or pen.

The ink flows very nicely, and seems a bit more reliable than the previous setup - it used to take a mm or two before the ink would flow, but this one seems to be perfect. I also like the fine nib - just seems neater to write with, but then I have always preferred fine pens to medium.

I'll keep my stock of the nibs for special pens, or for replacements when people drop the FP on it's nib (I'm the only one to have done that so far on my pens!). It is nice to write with the FP and not have it be so temperamental! I haven't used the Velvet blak yet though. I was happy to ditch a 50c pelican cartridge that was nearly full, but I'll keep the PR ones till they empty out, I think :D

I also swapped out a Parker Gel ink from my Sierra pen with the PR Easyflow 9000 refil. To be honest, while both the Parker Gel and the PR refils are *far* superiour to the standard refils, I think the Parker Gel writes smoother and leaves a nicer line. Mind you, the PR refils were US$2.00 each and the Parker Gel was $7.50 at Dymocks city store (I think), so don't get me wrong - I'm not complaining. The PR refils are certainly worth the money and if I run out I will re-order from Exotic blanks before buying the Parker Gel ones. If the original refil was a 4 out of 10, the PR one is 8 and the Parker is a 8.5, to give you an idea of the comparisson.

Very happy with both purchases, and particularly to Russell for organising it all.

Oh, and the Kauri blanks look pretty nice, though being roughsawn it's hard to get an idea of the grain. One of them was very large - looks big enough to do 3 sierras out of :2tsup:

My wife was suffering me playing with toys when I should have been getting kids ready for school... photos were out of the question

Cool about getting 10 blanks - I ordered the figured blanks - thought that I'd probably never do it again, so with only 2 blanks, why get the plain??? One thing I was suprised with was the weight - or the lack thereof. The things feel hollow! Probably similar weight to something like Western Red Cedar - I was expecting aussie hardwood weight (though dunno why)...

Yeah I noticed that too. Maybe it's something about huge trees, maybe they need to be light to grow that big, or they grow that big because they are light?

Yes I think we get used to our great trees being quite heavy it could be the harsh condition they grow in.
Someone once told me that balsa wood is technically a hard wood so I try and remember that when I find a hard wood that is light weight.

I think the advantage of the Easyflow 9000 refills is that they write like a rollerball, but
the ink doesn't dry out as fast. Rollerballs typically need to be capped so that they
don't dry out. The Easyflow seems to last as long as the regular Parker refill, but it
lays down ink like a gel. But it dries on the paper quicker than the gel does. So you
get less smudging than you might with a rollerball.

I think of it as a hybrid refill .. sort of the "best of both worlds". I used to replace the
kit refills with Parker gels because they write so nicely.. but people would ask why
they ran out so quickly. With the Easyflow, I don't get that complaint. Now I just
replace all the standard refills with them.
And get people to write with it.. it just about sells the pen by itself.

Thanks for that - very interesting. I hadn't used the gel refil long enough to run it out yet, so I wasn't aware of how well (or not) it lasted. I'm certainly happy with how the PR ones write, so I'll be sticking to them. Much nicer than the scratchy ones that come with the kits new

Thought I should update. Still no sign of the second package yet. Unless it turns up today, since I'm having the day at home, there won't be much chance of getting it out before next week.

Despite multiple emails, I've had no response from Dawn or Ed on if/when the second package was sent, or a tracking number, so I'm not even sure how long it's been in transit.
