A couple of weeks ago I was asked by the "lady of the house", if I would make a bowl for her sister for christmas.

I my wood pile I found a piece of Red Gum that I had been given several years ago.

The piece presented me with a real challenge as it had at least two big gum veins running into the centre. After exposing the veins, I started to fill them firstly with some araldite. Then filed over this with some resin.

As I started the hollowing of the bowl, I exposed the veins more and more. Therefore I was left with no option but to fill the veins from inside with more resin.

Today I happily finished the project. final sanding to 600 grit, then three coats of "stylewood" and a final buffing with EEE paste.

The measurements of the bowl are: 285mm in diameter and 85mm high.

Attached are the results.. I hope both women appreciate my efforts :)

Nice work! The gum veins were worth the effort - they really lift the bowl:2tsup:
