In picking up some surplus oak wood from a property owner
in Kilmore I noticed some unusual trees. He said they were
"Chinese Scrub", were invasive and hard to eliminate.
With his permission I took off one dry small limb and made a
pen from it. I gave him the pen in a case and he was quite
excited with it.
A Google search shows "Chinese Scrub" as
Cassinia Arcuata and that it grows to 2 metres.
These trees were perhaps 3-4 metres high and about
the same width.
He kept them as shade trees when he had cattle
but the cattle have gone as he is in poor health now.
I have enough to make another pen or so and will post a
pic when done. The wood has soft salmon tonings and some
interesting grain and knots. Very easy to turn.
Has anyone had experience with this wood?
