with three phase it will go for not much more. Although they are easy to convert to single phase

That is a very good lathe for the price. Fit a VSD to the three phase or replace with a single phase, Too easy.
you'll have to be quick tho'!!!!

Is "MC900" a generic name? All the other pics I've seen with that nomenclature are substantially different.

No Joe it;s not generic. Woodfast used it first to the best of my knowledge.

They still make M series lathes, ie M910, the c indicates that it comes on a cabinet stand.

The Woodfast MC900 is a much better engineered lathe and the stand helps make it more stable too.
It's made in South Australia and spare parts are still available.

It has 900mm between centres, 150mm centre height, a gap bed and 4 speed V belt drive.

Thanks, stuffy. But all the MC900s I've seen have a swivelling headstock, Reeves drive, and gap bed.

Google and forum search seem to confirm this. The one in the ebay listing might be an earlier version, or might just be mis-labelled.

What Stuffy has indicated is true.

Woodfast made quality machines in the past.MC900 is one of those quality lathes.

The asian invasion has seen a lot of machinery brought out with similar or same product codes but nothing like the originals as seen by the current range of MC900/1100 clones, not a patch on the woodfast

As Jim said I have a woodfast MC908 it does not have a swivelling headstock, and it was used for some years in a comercial situation the clones as said above are not even close to that sort of quality, I have not used one of the new yellow model woodfast lathes but from what I have heard they are pretty good, just unfortunate that they are now manufactured in China

Thanks for the added clarification, Jim. I guess the current crop just hijacked the model number; they're closer to clones of Jet 1236 - ish.
