PLEASE NOTE

This Australia Day Pen Swap is run under the auspices of the Woodwork Forum and as such is open only to members of this forum, it doesn't matter where in the world you are located, you are welcome to join in.

:2tsup:All we ask is that you join this forum to participate in the fun.:2tsup:

Alrighty then mates.

The 2010 Australia Day swap is on! :D:2tsup::D
Please be sure to register by January 25 so I can include you in the drawing on the next day.
The swap will be drawn at 0900 on Australia Day 2010. (USA Time will be 5PM the day before for me)

If you can not complete the swap on time please do not register as this is unfair to others.

This is open to all our overseas friends so if you are interested in swapping OS make a tag OS beside your name. If you want to just stay domestic put DOM beside your name. Last year it was all international so lets try to go that way again. We also have lots of new OS members here that can also spread the word.

It is open to turners from novices upwards. Everyone is welcome. The more the better.

Basic rules when the swap draw is made contact your partner, make a pen and send it post haste, blanks can be exchanged also if desired that's between you and your partner. The swap will be open to all styles of pens. All swaps to be completed by 31st March 2010

Please submit the following information:
Name
OS or DOM (preference)
Country of Origin.

Please PM or email me if you want to register or if you have any questions, concerns, or suggestions. I welcome any and all. I may even get a chance to reply to some of them. :D
Let's get really creative and have fun with it! :2tsup::2tsup::2tsup:

When all is said and done, we will have quite a few new members as well as a great showing of penturners swapping pens (and whatever else).:2tsup: I would love to see more turners from other countries besides Canada, the USA, and Australia get into this but we shall see.

Welcome Trevor and all the rest of you. Keep em coming. We have four countries and 61 people. I just compared my list to the one online and there are a few names that have not made it on yet. Feel free to check the list I have attached. The ones in blue are confirmed on this site. The red are names I have emailed to get registered here. The black are ones I have not found anywhere and am looking for the confirmation from them. I have emailed everyone in question and posted on all the other boards to garner more members and players. Tell everyone you know who turns pens to get over, register, and join in the fun!

:) Happy New Year to everyone. May it be filled with promise of good things to come, and joy for the things that are. May sadness leave you alone except on very rare occasions and only to let you know what pleasure may be found in joy. May all your mistakes be learning encounters and all your success be great. :)

In short, make lots of sawdust and lots of cash! :D

when i read through the list i noticed that everyone so far is happy to send OS so would it be possible to put all the Aussies in one hat and all the OS in another hat to match them off this way, i understand that there are alot more Aussies than OS people so there would be a few local links

That's the way I did it for the last 2 years. :D:D

Ron I am sure everyone will accept your legit reason for not being able to complete on time, just talk to your partner. :2tsup:

My only complaint is about the few who signed up, received a pen and then did not complete there end of the swap. :((:((:((

Looks as if we have a good swap on the way keep them coming, still plenty who played last year not signed up.

Ron did keep in touch and was apologetic, I doubt whether I was in any way concerned at the time.

It's a bit rough to get a pen and not send one in return :o maybe partners agree and send at the same time?

ldubia
4th January 2010, 07:00 PM
I was considering just putting all the names into one hat and pulling out ne and matching it with the next name. This way everyone gets and equal chance. There are mostly Aussies in this list so there are going to be a fair number of local swaps regardless. If I put all the Aussies in one hat and the OS's in another, there would not be the same amount. Everyone is willing to go OS. Not everyone is Aussie. The way I am planning is fair in my opinion.
Does anyone have a problem with my method? Please let me know and how it can be made better.

Big Shed
4th January 2010, 07:33 PM
Larry, I don't have a problem with your method, nor I think would anyone else.

But (there is always a but..........)

In my opinion most people joining an International Pen Swap do so in the hope that they get an OS partner. From listening to most US members both this time and the last 2 times, one of the reasons they join in is that they would love to get partnered with an Aussie member.Likewise most Aussies would love to be partnered with an OS member.

Doing it the way you propose to do it, you are going to get a fair number of American members partnered with each other, likewise a fair number of Aussies partnered with each other.

Doing it the way Sam did it for the last 2 years IMHO will give a better result for a larger number of people.

Or, you can put up a poll and ask the members to give their opinion.

I'm pretty easy going about it, but as big shed said it would be nice to have an OS partner. If the numbers just don't stack up, then I'm happy enough with local.

I've got some american wood I can use anyway :D

Cheers,
Dave

I'm also in favour of an Aussie hat and international hat. If you don't have enough names in the Aussie hat then put my name in twice and I will do two pens. I (and a few others) did two pens for the last Australia Day pen swap:2tsup:

This sounds good to me - last swap I did two, one US and one UK - I am more than happy to complete two packages so the International bit happens.

Of the 61 people on the list at this time, 7 are USA, 5 are Canada. 1 is Norway. The rest are all Aussie. I will of course want to pair the non-Aussie up with one Aussie member, but the remainder would end up being local. Just the way it is rolling out at the moment. I keep sending out messages in hopes of getting more members who are non-Aussie to join in, but so far this is what I have. I will go onto IAP and PTP and post some new PM's to try and get more out of Australia people.
Anyone interested in helping with this I would greatly appreciate the effort. If you have any pother ideas to generate more players, please let me know.
As for the draw, I will try to make it OS with as many people as I can.

New vote.
Please let me know if anyone would like to do more than one partner OS.

As already stated I am happy to do more than one partner but with the numbers you said below, even if every international made two pens each you won't have enough to cover the Aussies on the list.

Hi Karin, in the list in post #1 of this thread you are listed as USA.

In that same post Larry explains that the draw takes place on Australia Day (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Australia_Day), 26/01/2010 (or should I say 01/26/2010?:D)

Hey Guys,

I'd be happy to do a couple of swaps, so put me in both hats if you like. I wear about 5 hats at work so a couple more at play won't hurt.
