Variable spacing through dovetail jig plan wanted

I'm looking for a copy of a project printed in Shopnotes magazine some time ago of a through dovetal jig with movable fingers for variable spacing.

With an Incra jig you can variable space the dovetails, do double and double double dovetails. It is surely worth every cent. The 12" is $399-00, 16" = $499=00 and 24" = $599-00. The 16" is a very good buy. You can do through, blind and sliding dovetails as well as box joints. The joints are unbelievably easy to do with the Incra. 16" and 24" comes complete with 51 templaplates and they are an accurate fence for the router table, table saw and drill press.

Thanks for the reply Joe, price is unfortunately right out of my league, & not really what I'm after.

BTW I do actually have a Incra jig, one of the original Universal Positioning thingos, bought it at a market for $20, was unopened. I have used it a bit, best use was to make the template on my fixed finger through dovetail jig-the accuracy made it perfect for this job.

What I actually want to make tho' is a another through dovetail jig, this time with fingers that can be moved to vary the d/t spacing. Similar to the Katie jig available in the US but homemade obviously.

I wanted to see a copy of the plans to see how the fingers were located to ensure they remain perpendicular to the face of the jig. I thought of using T track & cup head bolts to secure the fingers, just vegetating on the best way to keep them perpendicular.

Have you tried the 'Shopnotes' web site? They have cut lists and other stuff from past issues on line - always worth a try if you know the issue number.

Lee valley has a dovetail guide that wiill give you variable spacing and allow you to vary all the other parameters of dovetails. something that none of the dovetail jigs will do. Dovetail guide (http://www.leevalley.com/wood/page.asp?SID=&ccurrency=2&page=41718&category=1,42884)

Rev, I have checked out Stots online, looks a good idea but funds are tight so el cheapo wins out.

Paul, have seen the Veritas saw guide idea, made something similar myself a year or so ago out of a block of plastic by rebating one edge to sit over the workpiece and cutting the dovetail angle on the side. Cut the tails on the router table, marked the pins from these & held a japanese saw against the homemade guide to cut the pins. Worked OK, better than freehand, but I want to make another router jig but with variable spacing.

bsrlee, have looked on the Shopnotes site for any further info, but forking out for the back issue seems the only way.

have you considered making your ouw jig using the Stots jig... set it up anyway you want it, make as many jigs as you want , as large (long) as you want.

Thanks for the link Bill, have checked out the stots on the web before, looks like a good bit of gear. Surprises me noone in Oz is importing it yet.

I'd seen and bookmarked that link, looks like a good idea but not what I'm chasing, it's for half blind d/tails, and uses a different method.
