Hi
I walked into the timber racks to get some pen blanks and this burl just jumped out at me, so with some thought as how to turn it I ended up with this bowl bit over 300 x 90 mm finished with Howard Orange oil this one has a foot comments welcome.

Cheers Tony

oooh, now I like that one :2tsup:

How'd you finish the foot? I doubt the vacuum chuck would have been that useful here :U

Hi Ozkaban

I guess it would be a bit much for vacuum chuck. I turned the base and trued the top between centres and turned a spiggot on bottom then used it (the spiggot )to turn the inside with tailstock up untill the last bit in the centre, with this kind of burl you dont know how well it will hold and one false move could be disaster. When the inside was finished I mounted on coles jaws and cut away the spiggot I lost about 2 inches in diameter because of the bark indentation on the side, it was either reduce the dianeter or have a wall thickness of about 30 mm too much for this kind of bowl I thought.

Cheers Tony

Nice work Tony
I have finished a similar burl bowl on a vacuum chuck by wrapping a sheet of clingfilm over it . It is amazing what a vacuum chuck will hold .
