Look on the DSE.vic website they will tell you the nearest place to buy your permit, and where the logging coupes are that you can collect timber from. for most of the common species you will pay about $11.50 per cube or about $16 a cube for more durable species such as redgum. This is as firewood but realistically if you load it up as lengths and take it home you can do what you want with it as long as it is non commercial.:2tsup:

Oh I should also say that if you are collecting on private property you would get away without a permit but you will need the land owners permission.

They have applications for timber harvesting and stuff on a commercial scale as well but most of these require that you have the correct training certificates and most of them I have seen really only relate to large harvesting companies however if you approach your local DSE branch they should be able to accomodate most of what you need to know.
