Hot damn.

Something to test even the axe-wielding mongrel.

Imagine the outcry chopping something down of that size today. It would make world news for the wrong reasons. I assume it is a Californian Redwood (Seqoia (sp?))

Just imagine the work cutting a log like that with the 2 man crosscut saw. No free lunch in those days.

Looking closely at the saw, I reckon it's two saws welded together... That would get the shoulders going to cut with that thing :o

I hope they were not getting paid by the tree:(

I once saw a picture of a tractor up on jacks and one wheel removed and a large piece of wood mounted in its place and someone was attempting to turn it into a bowl. I guess that is how you would turn this small piece:cool:

The way my back feels today, after cutting more firewood this week, I shudder lookin' at that crosscut!
Good pic, Hughie!

They can't compete with that massive log posted by Hughie, but these Australian Red Cedar logs (axe felled) would have made some reasonable spindle blanks.

They were cut from out family farm in the late 1940's. Grandfather on the right. Older brother on the left, now in his 70's.

Shame they didn't leave one for me!
