You're welcome to (as soon as I've got it!).

Of course the pens will be better - the new lathe has been well trained

It's probably more that I'm excited about the new lathe and want to get it in the shed before I do any more turning...

Dear Swap Partner .... just to let you know there maybe a slight delay in mine getting underway as my shed is now under about 1 1/2 feet of water and as much as I like turning I dont think standing knee deep in water playing with power tools is a good idea.

Hi Karin, it appears chuditch is not a member here, at least I can't find him under that user name.

He is however a member of IAP, he is located in Western Australia.

Perhaps you can contact him through IAP, where you are also a member.

This is precisely the reason why we insisted on all participants being members here, to stop this sort of communication problem, which has happened in past pen swaps.
It looks as though chuditch was allowed to "fall through the cracks"

If you have problems contacting him, please let me or Larry know.

Just put "pen parts" "gift" not more than $20 as long as the wood is dressed and no bark or worm holes should be fine hehe.

Hey There,

Sent PM to Crash MPH on 26.01 and E-mail on 27.01 still no answer, The excitement is wearing thin, maybe he works and only gets puter time on weekends. I'll have to wait and see.

So sending blanks OS is ok as long as they are dipped in wax ??? could someone with experience with trading over seas give us 1st timers a sort of hit list so we have an idea what to expect. please.

HazzaB

Big Shed
29th January 2010, 10:54 AM
It can take a little while to establish contact with your pen swap partner, so please be patient.

I have sent blanks to the UK, Canada and the US, have never dipped them in wax. Likewise I have received blanks from those countries, again rarely dipped in wax.

I have also been asked by a few participants on how to establish what sort of pen to send to your partner. I generally ask for their preference, ie FP, RB or ballpoint. Generally people reply that they are happy to leave it up to the sender, that is normally my reply as well if I am asked.

I try to use Oz timbers as most people from outside Oz are very interested in those, but I have used some of my own resin blanks as well. I then include the Oz timber blanks in the parcel.

I always include some blanks with the pen(s) I send, usually bring it up to the next weight category on the postage scale.

gawdelpus
29th January 2010, 11:11 AM
I agree with the above , I think postage can put a damper on our generosity at times. approx 1 pen 4 blanks with packaging about $15 AU airmail. up to 500 grams I think. The us has flat rate at about $14 US for up to 3 lbs. Don't panic about contact I only made first contact last night ,seems his initial reply got lost in the wonderful cyber world lol. So before making a large bundle check your postage rates as it can be a killer, and forget sea mail it can take 6 months hehe.

scorpio_oz
29th January 2010, 11:14 AM
OK, Contact has been made, he's in the navy and is at sea at the moment, so that explains the delay.

Just in time for time in the shed this weekend.

Sea mail is slow, the last packages I had shipped from down under took 10 weeks, but it is a whole lot cheaper than airmail. What can I say, with Canada Post's rates my swap partner will be receiving a package care of the USPS if everything goes according to plan.

Bruce

Bruce, I was involved in a pen swap with a Canadian partner, who sent his parcel sea mail. It has yet to arrive. To his credit he sent another one airmail, so in the end it cost him more than double, so perhaps airmail isn't so expensive after all, it would also save a lot of stress.

I must admit mail to and from Canada is a lot more expensive than to and from the US, it is also considerably slower. As I have a Canadian partner, I am getting in early this time:2tsup:
