One is NZ kauri , 450mm x 50 mm .
A close mate / distance kinsman , Riki Manuel , carved it for me .
Suggested that I use it as my tohu on my business card .

The other one is a piece of 'foundwood' , that almost went on the fire .
It is approx. 350 x 175 x 75 , and needed a bit of reinforcing round the spalting with dilute polyurethane.

MJ, the eyecatcher for me is the carved platter, Very well turned, the carving is more than perfect. For me the winner of the show.

Thanks guys .
I agree with you about the carved platter.
I feel a bit like a bloke who made a wooden frame , and stretched a canvas over it , seeing at it after one of the great masters had finished his brushwork .:)

Ern , I'll take another pic , and see if I can upscale the resolution

The endgrain turned one got me a first place at the monthly meeting of the Otago WoodTurners Guild meeting :2tsup:

Love the carved one MJ and it looks as though the NE piece would have been hard to turn.
I have a friend who does
Maori carving and we plan on doing some collaborative pieces someday. We have started one but it isn't finished yet, will post a pic when finished.
Cheers,
Robbie
