let me buy a VB 36. :sigh: however I now have an F16 (that is what is written on the side in Texta:D) in working order.

Uses a truck gearbox as well as 3 step double pulleys.

Do you have to double clutch to change gears?

That toolrest post looks a lot like the one my brother-in-law had in his pattern making shop. Used to turn fly wheel patterns and the like, up to 6ft diameter, on a similar lathe. Think his lathe was a Wadkin. So looking forward to seeing some large faceplate work coming out of your workshop, ....:o

PS - expect your F16 cost a tad less than the VB36

That is a Fighting Falcon, mine is more like a sedentary sparrow.
I also hope that it doesn't throw sparks out like that or smoke as bad as that did. :whistling2::cool::D

Good on you , that's the spirit! :2tsup: Don't understand why you did not consider that monster on E-bay a couplamonths ago, though. I did not buy it because I could not arrange suitable transport but on the phone it seemed ok. Did you see it and did not like it? .

Looks an awful lot like some of the gear my old man used to make - even the paint colour is right. Do you know anything of the history of the beast ?????

Very nice ,

Assuming three forward and one reverse on the truck gearbox, you have 9 speeds forward and three reverse?

Very sexy tool rest holder.

Nice find and a good price.
