First ever woodturned item with the added difficulty of doing it on my minilathe (metal) so things constantly keep getting in the way.

I found roughing down a square bit of wood quite easy, but when it came to getting tighter on the tapers I was finding it quite tricky. I think it probably had something to do with the fact that my tool rest is currently on centre and that I don't have a spindle gouge and had to use the roughing gauge...that's my excuse anyway.

Handle is rock maple and the base is black Delrin (Acetal).
Finish is CA. Really quick and easy, i love it.

For the record, I don't like the shape. I think the whole thing is too kind of chunky. I just made it as I went, so next time I will design it on SU before going ahead with making another from Stainless steel and redgum.

Looks pretty good to me... the only thing I might have added is a slight concave to the base, other than that:2tsup::2tsup:

Looks PDG to me!!:2tsup::2tsup::2tsup:

What's wrong with chunky? It's a tamper for Pete's sake.

Roughing gouges are OK for the sort of curve.

Looks good I made my first one out of delrin, my personal opinion is leave the base flat

I like it.. you need a decent top on it to apply nice even pressure.

There is always a debate about the shape of the base of Tamps. I like flat, but I've never found anyone who can demonstrate a difference in the taste of the coffee one way or another :whatonearth:

Would love to see the redgum & stainless one when it's made!

Cheers,
