Hi All,

I'm from Brisbane and I'm new to wood carving. I want to learn how to make earrings like the one's on this link. Outpouring of Love Wood Earrings review at Kaboodle (http://www.kaboodle.com/reviews/outpouring-of-love-wood-earrings).

If anyone could give me advice on the kind of tools I'll need that would be wonderful. I've found a few books on making wood jewellery that I've ordered but they don't seem to be specific to what I want to do. If anyone could recommend books/dvd's or even a course if they know of one in brisbane I'd be very grateful!!

thanks very much for any advice you can offer!!

Hi zilla

Welcome to the Woodwork Forums! :)

Here's a couple of links to some recent threads on jewelry some Fellow Forumites have made.

First attempt at earrings (http://www.woodworkforums.com/f8/first-attempt-earrings-118213/)

A few trial pendants (http://www.woodworkforums.com/f8/few-trial-pendants-118203/)

Whilst the threads are not exactly what you are looking for in terms of carved earrings, consider it an introduction to other areas of forum where some of our jewerly makers have posted pictures of their work.

I don't know of any specific courses for you, but perhaps looking into wood carving (http://www.woodworkforums.com/f10/)may be helpful.

Cheers

Hi zilla. Welcome to the forum.

Carved jewelry? Maybe similar tols to netsuke or something. I'd get some little paln caving tools or somethign and some bits of wood, and go at it.
There is also a forum called "the carving path" that may be another place to start.

The Carving Path (Powered by Invision Power Board) (http://www.thecarvingpath.net/forum/)

Looked at your link now, and I reckon a coping saw or scroll saw and small files or resps, then sand paper. And bits of suitable wood, which is a whole nothe can o' worms.
