Been designing a tool trolley to use next to the new wood lathe, something that will function as a platform to put chisels on, hold chisels, chucks, sandpaper and all the other paraphernalia used in wood turning.

Was in our local Home Hardware today and spotted a Mechanics Tool Trolley with a slight difference. It has a moulded plastic top, with raised sides, as well as a flip-out bar for hammers and the like. It also has 3 drawers and 2 shelves.

It looked like the sort of thing I had in mind, on casters as well.

The moulded plastic top is ideal as I use micromesh wet for pen turning and this will be an ideal platform for that activity as well.

Third drawer from top takes Vicmarc VM120 chuck with std jaws as well as Nova G3 with 25mm Pin Jaws.

Best thing was the price, normal price is $257.50, on special for $99.00:2tsup:

After getting it home and trying to fit the various bits and pieces I was sold, sold enough to go back and get a second one for all my spanners, sockets, screw drivers and the like.

Will take a pic tomorrow with some of my chisels on the rack and in the drawers.

Looks good :2tsup:
I've been in the design stage meself - read need time to get to making what I want
also read that I'm too cheap to pay $99 for something which just might fit the bill :C

Fair enough, I just worked on the principle that by the time I buy the 4 casters, 3 sets of double extension drawer slides and various other bits and pieces, I wouldn't be much cheaper off making it myself.

The quality of this thing, although not up to SnapOn standards, is certainly a cut or 2 above the tool boxes etc you see in Bunnies.

Between my own "todo list" and the "honeydo list" I'm not looking for projects ATM:no:

Fred thats a top score @ $99 off to my Home hardware store it would suit my needs to the ground for the Jet Mini and the extension bed. Everything at hand........and Fathers Day just round the corner I could call it an early one.:;

Been experimenting with how the various bits and pieces I use will fit in the trolley.

Took some photos at the same time.

Will have to do some "customising" but it will do the job.:2tsup:

Went to my local Home Hardware today with the intention of buying one of these trolleys for work. They had one hiding around the back being used to hold a computer but none in stock. To order one they wanted $290! I explained where I had seen this trolley but to no avail, they wouldn't match Big Shed's deal :(:(:(

I did get a good look at it though. I wasn't that impressed with the quality; to me it was at Supatool/Toolpro level. Certainly $99 was a fair price for the product and if they would get me one for that price I'd be happy but there's no way I would shell out nearly $300.

Guess I'll have to make one! Pity, it would have been perfect for it's intended use.

No I wouldn't pay the normal price of $257.50 either:no:, but at $99 it is a better buy and quality than anything I have seen at Supacheap or Bunnings. But I guess that is subjective.

It will certainly do the job I bought it for, in fact it is already doing it, but I will make some specialised mods to it to improve it further.

Sorry to hear you couldn't get one at the $99 Chief.
