hello folks

when we had the forum meltdown this thread dissapearded so i thought i'd re-post it and some additinal info about where the wood came from etc

This oaks story all started when my friend contacted me as he had a job come in to make two oak gate post finials- i wanted some fresh wood so of i went to see my friendly tree surgeon

I bought some green oak -the log was/is about 9' long and went from 18 to 22" diameter, its common oak but its been grown in a very wet woodland not far from me which apparently makes it grow slower than normal- it also seems to have given it a slight pink colour in place's
Here's some pics i took on my camera phone when i was collecting the oak- then a pic of the 5 sections stored in my log store and a hollow form i've made today from the oak.
the front of my van and some beech and ash logs- the oak pictures were to blurry!!
my log store
the first hollow form 6.5" wide by 5.5" tall

This is what my friend Richard findlay did with part of the log i got for him

These are the remaining things i've made with the logs-some you've already seen some that you havent

the middle form is 8" wide with a 7/8" hollowing hole-the other two are 6" wide with 5/8" hole's

this form is 7" wide x 5.5"tall with a 7/8" diameter hollowing hole.

this form is textured and is 7"wide x 5"tall with a 7/8" diameter hollowing hole

two more oak bits today
7.5" wide x 6.5"tall with a 3/4" opening
