Go and say gidday to the folks in the General Woodturning Forum (http://www.woodworkforums.com/f8/).
You might find someone who ' turns ' near you

Try the Woodturners society of Qld. Inc. They are at Greenslopes, not so far away.

there is a great guy on the nsw north coast ... i am not sure just where or how far away he is but his name is john ewart ... i know he advertised in the woodworker magazine at one stage

both my wife and i did courses with him and would thoroughly recommend him

Lia ,
You may come across a turner who is local to you at the Brisbane Woodturning Symposium
Welcome to The 2010 Australian Woodturning Symposium (http://www.tymba.com.au/symposium.htm) .

But you had better hurry , it finishes on Sunday .
There are Hands-on After Classes being held the following week at number of locations around the South-East of Queensland Welcome to The 2010 Australian Woodturning Symposium (http://www.tymba.com.au/afterclass.htm)

good luck

Lia,

As some others have mentioned..talk to Rob McKee at Woodturners Society of Qld in Pine Street, Greenslopes.

I have done 3 courses there...Spindle, Bowl & Sharpening and they are worth every cent...especially for beginners as I am.
