View Full Version : A piece of firewood

Found this in the local wood yard and thought it had some potential. I had to trim it a fair bit due to a split but am happy with the outcome. I hadn't intended to go with the natural edge but liked the contrast between the deep red and grey on the rim. Finish is Kunos Oil :)

I have another bowl to show pics of but have to re-take them as the ones I have are out of focus:-

Beautiful grain there Corbs :2tsup:

I assume it is from a red-gum branch fork junction.

Thanks for the favourable comments team:)

dai sensai, you're correct its red gum from a crutch section. Unfortunately I lost a fair bit of size due to me needing to remove some bits that wouldn't have survived the turning process.

Around here all my firewood is yellowish or brownish.

The turning shops ask $95.00 US for a 3 inch thick X 10 inch blank of fancy wood.

Yea, shipping, I know. Does it have to ride in a first class airline seat?
