Just out of interest, what are you guys paying for C and Z section purlins?. I had a quote today for 200mm C at 1.5mm thick for $20 per metre.

Edit: actually 1.6mm

I'd bought some about 6 months ago for $16.50 per metre, I'll have to shop around a bit and compare.

That seems a bit steep, depending of course on volume. You should be closer to 15 if you are just a walk up cashy. We buy closer to $10+ GST, but we are shed builders and have a volume account.

The reason I'm asking about pricing is they went from $5/M for offcuts to $10/M in the space of a month or so. The only reason I can think for a difference is the transportation to Cairns of the steel coils for rolling.

Hard to tell, could be something as simple as the rebound in scrap steel prices.
