These should probably be featured in the green turning section but here goes.

These were given to me by Corbs back in late June. They were only just cut then and so I rough turned them at the start of July.

Last weekend I had a look at them and they had started going moldy so I thought I would finish them and see what happens.

To say they are moving is an understatement.

These were off the same piece of tree, the thinner bowl was cut off the front of the blank the deeper bowl came from.

Funny timber that Camphor Laurel. The heartwood can be so different to the sapwood. It's almost chalky sometimes. It's a pain when it's not quite dry.. Hard to finish as well.

I still love turning it though.

That's a problem with any (partially) green wood, really. *sigh* I've ruined many a good blank by impatience...

The difference between the blanks is striking though. You have more of it to play with? Let's see if you can resist playing with it before it's ready.

(I'm betting you can't. Purely based on my own inclinations; it's such lovely stuff to turn when green! :U)

That is some very speccy wood
they look nice

I'd bow ro skew's wisdom, which I've followed only because I haven't had a chance to turn the bit I have

Thanks everyone. I do have another piece that I can get some similar blanks from, I will have to cut the blanks out of it soon but I have a few other things on the go at the moment which is helping me fight temptation :)
