Hello does anybody know an engineer around Melbourne that could turn a thread adaptor that I need to mount my chuck to my lathe for me?

The spindle on the lathe is 1 x 10" and the chuck is 30 x 3.5 but am able to supply both.

I'm from tullamarine but am willing to travel, if
You could recommend someone or you yourself are capable I would appreciate it, thanks

Can you change the insert on your chuck?

I think Jim may have them. Home | Carroll's Woodcraft Supplies (http://www.cws.au.com/)

What sort of chuck? Does it have an insert in it already or is it a dedicated 30mm?

Thanks for the quick replies,

I dont think the insert on the chuck itself can be changed i probed around when i first got it but didnt want to start pulling it because nothing i put back together is ever the same.

The chuck is a carbatec economony model heres a link- Carba-Tec Keyed Scroll Chuck Kit : CARBA-TEC (http://www.carbatec.com.au/carba-tec-keyed-scroll-chuck-kit_c21558) the only measurement i can get is the internal diameter (of the back of the chuck) with a set of vernier calipers which is 26mm, so i assume with 2mm of thread either side of that it would be a 30mm?

I might just email vermec the link to my chuck would that be enough information for them?

I went through the same exercise some time back. The problem was that there is barely enough metal left after boring and tapping a 1" x 10tpi inside an external thread 30mm x 3.5. It can be done but with care.

The chuck looks like one of those chinese copies of a VM100 to me (DAMHIKT) so it probably accepts a standard Vicmark adaptor too even though the adaptor in the picture doesn't look the same

The Carbatec copy of the vm100 chuck does not contain an insert. They are direct threaded with M30 x 3.5.
Vermec make an adaptor 1inch x 10 female to M30 male. $55-00 plus post.
Jim Carroll can help you in Vic or I can send you one.

Cheers
