Hi All:):):)
Managed to get some time away from the honeydo list and finished of these two
The burl is a coolabah and has a striking gum vein pattern it is 300 across the top and the "bowl" is 170 in dia stands 60mm high.finished to 600# and currently has 4 coats of "Organ Oil" I will give it a couple more and then a buff
I am not sure of the type of pine this platter is made from as it was a found by the roadside bit. It has a pleasant "honey like" smell as it was turned. pleased with the result it is 220 in dia and stands 30 high the wall is from 4mm to 6mm at the base finished to 600 , EEE and 3 coats of a mix of Shelawax cream and liquid. I have a few blanks of this left and am looking forward to turning them:D
Love your comments

Graham, very nice work.
My eyes catch the Coolabah as this is very striking wood, must be a big fun turning this, and ask almost for grabbing from the screen of my computer.

Knowing the judge personally I know he is now winging his way to a well earned holiday on the Sunshine Coast:U

Graham well done you and J must be stoked:2tsup: of course this also doubles the selling fee as they are award winning platters.

Beautiful pieces, I think that your pine is cedrus deodara and I wonder if the burl is coolibah as it usually has now voids at all, not that it matters as the forms are perfect.

Watch out now...there'll be no living with BB now. Gonna get in with the swelled head crowd, and before long he'll be charging a grand per bowl:roll:

nicely done on the pine piece...looks grand!!

Hello "bowl-basher"

Very nice work, something to be proud of. The "pine type" platter could be norfolk island pine, the wood shavings from a bowl I recently turned had a very sweet smell as well. If you look at my thread " in uncharted territory" you can see simulare grain and knott pattern as you see in your platter..

Two very nice platters. You really made the most of the grain pattern on that pine one.
