If you look at the lefthand side of the page, there you will find a free edition of Jan 2011 edition of More Woodturning. Down load it for free, among the articles there is a good review of the Longworth chuck showing the current ali model discussed in a previous thread

Thanks for posting this Hughie. :2tsup:
I took a look and I'm interested in the mechanical advantage gripping the piece with the "Plate Pliers" this unit includes might allow.

With the unit I have there was a short learning curve in making that adjustment. The plates are moved by hand in the correct directions;
opposite rotation(s) might be a good description.
There are thumb-sized holes through both plates to facilitate adjustment on the "Modern Longworth."
With the pliers that adjustment may become easier but the potential
for dropping the piece may exist. (at least for me)
I always try to use a towel to protect the work at this stage.

It would be interesting to have both the "Rim Chuck" and the "Modern
Longworth" at the same time for more evaluation.
Using spanners to get this one mounted might take a third hand.
I think the in-chuck metal spigot option is better for me.

Prices & shipping seem close ...
either way I'm eating less for a few more days .
