I have a chuck that I want to use to hold a drill bit in the tailstock of my lathe. In order to use this chuck, I need to obtain a Morse Taper 2 to I/2"-20 threaded drill chuck arbor. When can I buy one of these?

I'm assuming you want the 1/2-20 thread to be at the chuck end rather than at the other, or drawbar end?

If so, I can't think of any place that sells drill chuck arbors with a threaded end for the chuck mount.

Most drill chuck arbors I have seen have a tapered front end, be that J1, J2, J3, J33, J6 or whatever.

Chucks with a thread mount usually come off a hand held drill and are not originally designed to go on a drill press or lathe which use Mt2 or MT3 tapered arbors.

Not much help I know:rolleyes:

Edit:

Thinking about this further, your other option would be to buy an MT2 arbor with a "blank" front end, which is straight and not hardened. You can then cut a 1/2"-20 thread on this blank end, but it presumes you have access to a metal lathe.

Thanks, BS. That's the unit I need. I knew that they existed, because I have one in my drill press. Grizzly in the USA also have one, and it's priced at about $6. However, shipping charges from the USA are dynamite, so I would prefer to buy locally if anyone knows of a local supplier.
