This is the latest offering from the shed. It measures 320mm diameter and 145mm high. Wall thickness is an even 8mm. Made from black walnut and silver ash. Still not happy with the detail, so another one is in the making and will be finished in a couple of weeks time. Finished with three rubbed coats of sanding sealer and three coats of lacquer, and sanded up to 1200# wet and dry. Finally buffed up with Ubeaut EEE. Still tossing up whether I should make a lid for it, or not.

WOW Jim, that looks incredible.

Nice contrast between the two timbers, and the finish looks great.

Not sure what detail your not happy with, but it looks good from here.

Jim, the maker of this gorgeous segmented bowl sees not so perfected details.
I don't see them, seeing only a wizardry with segments and amazing craftmanship.
Hat off for you.

Wow. Segmented stuff is not usually my cup of tea but this one is a clear exception. Agree that no lid is needed. Great proportion, shape and amazing attention to detail. I cant begin to imagine the skill or patience required for this. Top job. john

Oooer! :oo: Noice!

I think that a finialled black walnut lid could set it off nicely.

It stands quite well by itself, but there'd be a moment when the lid was removed and that li'l feature inside was revealed that'd add that bit of Wow factor, y'know?

Yep Skew, that is exactly what is driving the idea of a lid. The problem is the design and pattern of the lid. Also, finial or no finial, or a knob, that is THE question.

Magnificent work Jim. :2tsup:
I have never been a fan of segmented turnings as they are usually so predictably patterned and generally square. You have taken this to a new level, master class.
Cheers, Ian
