Photo1 & 2 Carved Rim Hoop Pine Traanslucent. This piece glows quite nicely with just normal light. I photographed it without shining a light into the piece to accentuate the translucence. The wood has a nice colour/grain pattern in it's own right with the oiling so I thought that I would just go with that in the photo. This piece will get another coat or two of oil, will semi gloss up a bit.

Wood: Hoop Pine
Size: 260mm X 145mm

Photo 3. This is a smaller hoop pine translucent.

Size 1185mm X 130MM

Photo 4. A Blue Gum Burl form.

Size200 mm Diameter X 170 mm High.

All oil finish.

All Comments welcome.

Love the hoop pine - looks like a sea-shell. All the hoop pine I have seen is very bland but that is very nice.
How do you do the final shaping?
Bruce.

Hello Bruce,

It's the oiling that brigs out the colour.

The shaping is done with a flush cut off hand saw and sandpaper.
