In June last year, an old mate gave me a small block he had laminated after attending the Turnfest on the Gold Coast. It has taken me since then to come up with a design to suit the block. The block measured 80 x 80mm and 100mm long. It is made from silky oak (cardwellius) in the centre with quila red lines and silver ash outside. The first view shows the structure.
The second view is a profile shot with the lid on.
The third shows the pattern on the inside.
No. 4 with the lid off.
Finished with sanding sealer and several coats of lacquer and buffed with EEE.

I agree Ray, but the bloke that laminated the block is over 80 years old and asked me to make something from it for him.

Mrs Blackie, just remember that any thing is possible.

Nice work Jim

Your mate should be happy with that, I spose the difficult bit is that you have to keep the blank perfectly centred

Jim, indeed very very pretty, this laminated block was very suitable for this vase.
In my humble opinion the lid was not needed.
