Did anyone else catch the ABC programme fromt he UK on making green wood chairs?
See: ABC iview (http://www.abc.net.au/iview/#/view/836269)
Never having considered working with green wood before it was extremely enlightening, some of the chairs were rather nice too

Great show though.

Hi,
only new to the forum and just found the Green Woodworking section. A friend was telling me about the tolerances that were being achieved with the pole lathe which is pretty impressive.

Then again when I was learning how to make windsors a few years back in the U.S., Curtis Buchanan who was teaching me, worked with the same materials and was just as good with his results

He turned his stretcher tenons to 650,000 then super dried the tenons in a drying box. On inserting them into the 5/8 mortise with hide glue they bonded within a couple of seconds and were absolutely stuck fast. Another bloke who was making a chair at the same time with us, glued the wrong stretcher into his leg. The bond and joint was so strong that not even a dead blow hammer could belt the leg off and eventually the leg had to be cut off to save the stretcher!

Are there any other members out there who are making windsor chairs in Victoria? I'd like to hear from anyone who is.

Cheers
