Hello all . Do any of you do elliptical turning or know of somebody that does not oval turning I am talking 300mm plus deep vases. I am asking this for a friend of mine that does elliptical turning. He has all the kit for steel and wood turning. Alas no computer thus not a member of any forum. I offered to help him find other elliptical turners out side South Africa. His Name is At Smit Regards Roger in Pretoria A Blessed Christmas and a very prosperous New Year For the Dutch members and those who still can read Dutch Zalig Kerst en Voorspoedige Nieuw Jaar :U

Welkom vriend,
Not a lot of elliptical turners around but we have a few on the forum. 300mm deep have often thought about doing a deep piece. All we usually see is platters of shallow dishes etc.

Hi all & Hi Roger

I am attaching two images of the deep eliptical vase by At Smit, referred to by Roger. This particular vase is about 400 mm deep. At is at present turning an even deeper one, and intends to work up (down?) to a 600 mm vase. If you are wondering what is required to go that deep, have a look at him and his monster rebuilt 3.5 ton Oliver patternmaker's lathe.

Hey get a look at that for a lathe.:o

Looks right up your alley.

No good to me.

I couldn't move that bloody great big tailstock.

Unless you could lend me Ann Marie for a few days.

Between the 2 of us we could slide it along the bed.

Happy new year.:2tsup:

Cheers

Tim
