My Carbatec CT318 thicknesser died yesterday. A gear in the power feed gearbox lost all its teeth. I don't think Carbatec service this model any more.
If this model was still available I would buy another complete machine. Its 14 years old worn out at least 4 sets of blades and planed heaps of timber.

MY QUESTION ARE
Which 12" planers
1. have resharpenable blades and which ones have disposable blades
2. have chain driven rubber feed rollers.

Hope you can help with the technical advice.

My DeWalt has re-sharpenable blades.

It doesn't have a chain drive though. Toothed nylon belt instead.

I suspect that a replacement gear would be available somewhere - try Carbatec as it may be a standard Taiwanese part, or try someone like Hare & Forbes - they'll need to know the shaft diameter, fixing type (key slot size) number of teeth, gear thickness plus root & maximum diameters

When the teeth came off they caused the gearbox housing to split.
Shaft mey be bent , havent checked it.
