Nice.

What's the apparatus in picture-212 and upper left of picture-211?

Cheers,

IT looks like a nova attachment to swing the tail stock out of the way .

it attaches to the rear of lathe to allow for the turning of larger pieces unrestricted by bed of lathe

it attaches to the rear of lathe to allow for the turning of larger pieces unrestricted by bed of latheIt is an outboard bowl turning attachment to allow turning on the back of the headstock.

It attaches to the headstock just above the base.

I personally would not use it for a couple of reasons:
1: The mounting puts strain on the casting of the headstock and I have seen them split there.
2: They are not very strong and vibrate like hell under reasonable cuts.

You are better off using a remote rest if you want to turn outboard.

Just as an aside. The 1000 was the first lathe I bought. My other lathes were hand builds.

We extended the bed out to 3 metres to turn verandah posts on and it did a great job for 4 years before I replaced it with a custom built one.

I sold it to someone and I believe it is still going.

Thanks for that advice
the chap i bought it from suggested I beef up the mounting area if I were to do anything largish as he thougth the mounting area was a little flimsy but the remote rest sound like the way to go

I thought it might be something like that. But at least it's slightly more robust than the elbow extension on my HF34706 (~MC900). I wouldn't use it either - seems designed to break.

Joe
