I wanted to cut up some timbers for the yo-yos, spinning tops and trinket boxes for the demos my club are doing for Aus Day. I sliced up some Gidgee and Spalted Bonewood for the trinket boxes, and some Jacaranda and Silky Oak for the spinning tops. I usually use Blue-gum for the yo-yos as I have found something heavy works best, but unfortunately I couldn't find any :- (apart from dirty big 800 dia blanks).

I scratched around my pile and found an old bit 100mm thick mini slab off-cut of Crows Ash that was burnt along one edge, left over from a day of slicing at the club. As I started to slice it though, I found because in a previous life it was outside, it has started to rot and spalt. It looked almost like Buckeye Burl :2tsup:, just a bit harder.

Sliced up some veneers from the better stuff for boxes, long squares for trinket/pepper grinder blanks, and of course some pen blanks from the left-overs. Too good for yo-yo's , so now I have to look for some timber for that .

Cheers
