I cut and shape abalone shell to use as eyes in some of my wood carvings. The usual grind stone in a drill press and a crepe rubber stick to clean the stone.

I cut the bottom out of a 2-liter milk plastic jug. A couple of spline cuts in the neck.
That fits on the end of my ShopVac hose (fines bag meant for plaster dust). The open end of the jug is less than 2cm from the side of the stone. As the stone spins, it throws the crud straight into the intake. Running shaft speed of 1,100 rpm, not working aggressively and nothing gets cooked.
