Helping FIL cut down some wattle trees. Is it worth stashing away until it is dry to turn? Branch in photo is 60-70 mm round. Trunk about 100mm.

If you can stop it from splitting, you can get some nice pieces out of it. I have had little luck in stopping it from splitting.

hi pacman,
i have had a few attempts at turning sally wattle and all have ended the same way:oo:
Sally wattle is fine
if you can cut out the centre it might be alright
if it's only 60mm/70mm it is probably not worth it
if you want my opion i would burn it rather than turn it :o:o:o

Wattle is an acacia & there are somewhere between 950 & 1000 different sorts of Acacia in Australia & more than 1350 worldwide.
It all varies, some of it is magnificent if you cut it & store it the right way.
I love the side grain of Brown Salwood AKA Sally Wattle but the end grain isn't so good.
Blackwood & Gidgee probably the best, Mulga is pretty inside but the stuff I have tried cracked.
