Hi all, These Australian hardwoods are, umm, hard. This bowl measures 6 1/2" x 2 1/2".
To me it looks like the wood has boiled and overflowed over the top like lava. Sorry for the amount of photos, but every side was different and I couldn't decide which photo to leave out. Harry

Wonderful stuff!
Your description of boiling over is spot on.
Nowhere near too many photos.

I think most people would have turned the whole thing.
I've said it before (and will probably say it again) - I love it when people have the courage to leave most of the wood natural.
It looks fantastic. :2tsup:

Nice job there Harry, love the bowl. I know from experience how hard yellowbox is to turn. One observation though, there appears to be some white substance in the cracks. Is this dust from sanding, or residue from a polishing/cutting compound such as EEE, it's only a small thing but it does detract from an otherwise beautiful piece.

Hi Grumpy, you absolutely right, it's probably dust and EEE and I should have taken my time and cleaned them out. I'll get around to it and clean it up one day. A bloke named on this site mentioned on one of the posts that after finishing up all the turning and sanding that we should put extra effort on the finish and not rush the final stage. He was right, it's equally important as everything else. Thanks for your input, Harry
