If you have a tablet computer or smart phone (iPhone or Android) there's a free software item: <http://appstouse.com/measure-level-and-slope-with-great-accuracy-with-iphone/762>

I haven't found any accuracy tests, but the graduated dial looks convincing, and tenths of a degree have been mentioned!
The free version can't be calibrated - you pay about a dollar for the full version.
Of course, it'd help if your phone/tablet had a hard, straight edge on it.

Yes but does it work?

I don't have a smart phone and do not intend to get one so it is not really of concern to me. Pointless to have a smart phone that I have to drive 14km from home just to use it.

Downloaded to my Android. Actually seems to work ok.

Don't think I would use it for serious work but as a quick check when nothing else is available, it looks ok.

Will leave it installed.

Probably useful in the 4wd.

I was trying to build a shelf I used the app and I was 5mm out.

Mine is pretty good, as the free version. Maybe the full version is needed to calibrate yours? I might be just how the sensor is mounted within your device.
Is it consistently 5 deg wrong?
