A little while back BT Bob & myself purchased a Crotch Centre each for our Hercus lathes.
These little gadgets came in from the USA & we figured "they might come in handy one day."
The concept of a crotch centres has been around for a long time, in essence a vee block ground into a Morse Taper that fits into the Lathe Tailstock. A simple accurate centreing device.
Yesterday, rather than set up on a drill press in the conventional way, decided to give the crotch centre a test run on a small job.
Two holes for tapped grub screws needed to be drilled on centre for a "Trammel Extender" .140" dia holes for 8-32 UNC
The photo tells it all, however if I were using the crotch again a small toolmakers clamp to hold the workpiece would be recommended.:B rather than holding with fingers.

Certainly on my "might come in handy one day"
Do you know if they are NOS or are they still around?

I'm pretty sure there was an MEW article on them a couple of years back. While you could buy one, given that it's a taper with a round V block on the end, making one should be reasonably easy.
