Something a friend asked me to turn for him.
An English White Walnut goblet, stained purple and oiled to a gloss. Over an American Black Walnut stem, all 11" high.

Hi Digger.
Noticed you location, I'm a Man of Kent myself, but probably not quite so far from home as you are.
Yes, I used Chestnut Spirit Stains (http://www.chestnutproducts.co.uk/results.php?cat=Stains). Applied heavily then left to dry a couple of days. Sanded back lightly with 320 to reveal the grain and oiled many times over several days. Finally finished off with a 3 wheel buffing system.
I've used this method on several decorative/coloured turnings and it always looks good (if sales are anything to go by!)

Really a magnificent goblet, the right combination of wood species.
