Good Old Woodturning Book

I recently bought a bunch of books from an estate. One was Creative Woodturning by Dale Nish, published in 1975 by Brigham Young University Press.

Nearly six hundred photographs accompany the text to clarify the operation of the wood lathe and its use for specific projects.

It is full of tips and step by step photos covering turning. As it is written before 4 jaw scroll chucks he shows how to do without.

This would be handy for those saving up for the chuck, but still wanting to make bowls or plates.

Your library may have it or used book sellers.

I highly recommend it.

I have the same book. Found it at the Life Line booklets in Brisbane a few years ago. Paid $5 AU for it. It is an excellent learning manual.

Old trade books are just gold...I thnk I have a coppy of that too.

I think he was one of the early Mormon wood turning identities, there are still a few arround but they tend to be a littl more low profile.

Bringham Young Universtity is the big Mormon uni.

I didn't think about a Mormon connection to wood turning. I do know about BYU, but university presses do print a lot of unrelated stuff.
