I use the Arbortech Pro IV. Good for quick stock removal and roughing. I do not have the ability as yet to use it for finer carving. Best thing for you is look at Arbortech's site http://www.arbortech.com.au/woodmain.html . Give it a go, it does beat hand chiselling out large burls! :)

Tonto,
There's a local guy I know who's a pro sculptor, sells in galleries all over the world. He roughs out with an electric chainsaw then uses an arbortech followed by lots of sanding. Go here: http://home.austarnet.com.au/beasley/ to check out his work.

Tonto,

I have recently purchased the arbortech mini carver and have had alot of fun carving bowls from burls (mostly Coolibah and Red Mallee). Just recently I got the Industrial Pro attachment.

I find the Industrial Pro is great for starting the job - getting the centre of the burl removed. I then move onto the mini carver for the rest of the job.

As with any woodworking tool, I have been warned by everyone who works with the abortech tools - BE CAREFUL. Make sure to wearing face mask, etc.

What were you thinking of using the arbortech for?? I am interested in any tips/advice as I am definately a beginner and am learning as I go along.

I will attach a photo of one of my bowls. I finished it off in Tung Oil.

Journeyman,

WOW! I just went into the link you recommended.

The sculptures were awesome. People like that truly inspire me.

One day I plan to tackle a sculpture myself.

Thanks..
