After reading the great responses from TimberNut's thread on things to do in Victoria, I thought i'd do the same for my road trip from Far North QLD to Sydney in mid December. I'll be driving on my own so I need some things to do along the way.

I'll be travelling south from Townsville to Rockhampton, Rockhampton to Gold Coast, Gold Coast to Coffs Harbour then Coffs Harbour to Sydney (then Sydney to Melbourne over Xmas but iv'e got that planned already). I plan to stay one night at each stop, except for the Gold Coast where i'll stay 2 nights.

At this stage I plan to visit Terry for HNT Gordon planes and Boutique timbers. I'm looking to stop at woodworking galleries/shops, or anything that might be fun to do on your own.

I don't mind driving a little extra if it's worthwhile, so i'll put it out there to anyone who has any good places to visit.

I'm also happy to pick up/drop off stuff along the way, have a look at my thread in the 'Woodwork forums Members transport" section for more info.

Thanks
Andy :2tsup:

Gympie Forestry Museum

Bird park south of Apple Tree Creek if you're into that sort of thing. Check openings time with a phone call.

Historical villages all along the Bruce. Most have something from early timber days.

Into scenic views and/or drives Andy ?

Timber getters rail tunnel right hand side heading into Canungra from the east. Cut by mill to move timber from place like Currumbin and Tallebudgera Valley to the mill in Albert Valley. No much to see but interesting and unusual if you're nearby. You could do a loop to Murwillumbah that included the clock shop (a bit touristy imo) on Tamborine-Canungra-Natural Arch-Murwillumbah etc. Odds and sods of woodie stuff but mostly craft rather than timber or bigger stuff (unless you count the stumps).

Not sure what your plans are on the Gold Coast, but you are welcome to call in to say hello, or organise meeting up some where. My place is a common stop-off point for many travellers :U

Just PM me closer to the date.

Cheers

Thanks Neil, Ray and Rumnut for the kind offers, i'll definitely keep it in mind :)

I've done a lot of drives from Sydney to Melbourne over the last 6 or so years since moving to Sydney from Melbourne and the first few years I always only stopped for fuel and maybe a quick bite to eat. This time is obviouslly a much bigger drive so i'm breaking it up and thought i'd make the most of it so I really appreciate the ideas.

Cheers,
Andy
