Okay, I'll start off.

I received Basmansimon's package this morning and what a pearler! It's a Baron II Rollerball wrapped in some cross cut Golden Wattle. The grain of the timber is quite special and the finish Simon has applied is flawless. I also received 3 cross cut Golden Wattle blanks which I'm looking forward to getting stuck into.

Thank you so much Simon :2tsup:

Here is the pen I received today courtesy of Scott.

Cigar wrapped in QLD Maple. The blank is really silky, and shows brilliantly through the finsh. To top it off, three beaut pen blanks which I can't wait to get into - especially looking forward to turning the Ancient Redgum he gave me.

Love it!
Simon.

My pen has touched down in the States so I'm safe sharing a couple of pics here now. The pen below is the one I sent along with a few blanks. I started a thread with a few more pics of the blanks used here (http://www.woodworkforums.com/f69/australia-day-pen-swap-pen-166395/#post1611736).

There's 20 different Aussie woods used in this pen.

I wanted to share Corbs' awesome PITH and 11 cool blanks!
He included a nice piece of Red Mallee Burl, also a blank of Puple Gidgee that will be turned shortly. I'll be sending out my PITH shortly, I'll have some big shoes to fill!
Thanks again Andrew for the really cool pen and your generous selection of blanks.
Cheers,
Rob

Glad it arrived safely Chris. Your pics are quite good actually, but if you dont mind I'd like to post one as well that I took before before I put it in the mail.
Edit= just noticed that your pics show the curly figure better in the White Cedar.

The timbers I used for this pen are Australian White Cedar with Australian Red Cedar accents.

Sure is strange seeing them from here.

I asked which he'd prefer, fountain or roller....He told me to surprise him. One of each was about the only thing I could think of for a surprise!

I have received a great package from Peter (USNR'03)
in Virginia U.S.A.

He informed me that the pen is a "Gadsby with M3
Black lava and Cobaltium" and it will make a wonderful
addition to my collection.

Peter, and my other swap partner HazzaB, have been
advised that I have just had an operation on my ear
and things have been delayed. The skin graft has been
performed, stitches removed and hopefully I will soon
carry out my part of the deal.

Thank you for your patience guys.

I was at work and received a call from the wife...she wanted to know what I bought that needed to be signed for from Australia! Told her that I hadn't bought anything, so she opened it the box to make sure:oo: So not right!!! But since she is the one that does most of the 'good cooking' around here, I'll let her get a pass on this....but just this time(hope she don't read that, I'll be buried in the backyard under the mill):D

Anyway, I get home and find everything nicely stacked, and her standing there with a smile...telling me I am gonna love it(cause apparently she is thinking she gets to keep it)!!

I have to say that I was more than pleased when I got home from work the other day. A package was there waiting for me with some awesome blanks and a beautiful presentation box. The box contained a Pristina kit wrapped in a "Wadi Tree". The fit and finish was simply great. I really enjoy these swaps and I hope that "Cookie" gets his package soon and he is as pleased as I am. He'd have looked a whole lot better if I'd managed to slam the lid on him. Hot nor/westerly blowing here yesterday and this little fella and about 500 of his mates decided to visit at the time I was trying to take some pics. I've been remiss in my duties and haven't posted pics of the pen and blanks I received a couple of weeks ago from SloLouie. The pen is Aligator Jaw with resin on what we'd call a Baron fountain pen. Great pen and blanks :2tsup:

Very nice Haul,
What type of timber is the blank in the middle on the group photo, it kinda has a plywood look to it?

I'm not really sure what it is actually. It looks a bit like a stabilised bamboo laminate but I might need to find out

The other pen is a Cigar from Wraith. Nice looking pen with a great selection of blanks. Question is which one to use first.258857258858258859258865

OK, so compared to the photos posted by others, mine suck!! However the pens I received certainly do not.

The first 2 pics are from Deb - the pens are lovely and a few east coast timbers (the lidded pen is made from wattle the other unknown) - a couple of which are a mystery to everyone and still require identification.

The second 2 pics are from Bob in USA and again, a lovely pen which sadly caused him a lot of grief. The lovely scallops are white holly and the remaining timber is mesquite burl. This pen has also come with the bits to convert it to a roller ball - two pens in 1 !!! The blanks are also lovely and I look forward to some shed time over easter to get into all of these blanks! Better than chocolate!

Thanks to both my pen swap partners, I hope they are both back again next year.

I gotta say that the standard of pens this year is pretty high. Every body seems to have brought their A game and my pens from Seriola are no exception. Des took the trouble to peruse a recent thread talking about everybodies favorite kits and lo and behold these two beauties appear in my two favorite kits.

So we have a roman harvest and elegant beauty both wrapped in Mallee burl and resin blanks. These are seriously nice pens and will be going straight into my private collection (in the pool room if I had one :U ) . Also included were some blanks Des had collected from his local area.

So a big big thanks to Des for a wonderful swap and his patience at my slow pace. Hopefully yours will be heading your way very soon.

cheers

Here's my pen from my domestic swap partner (Spanky239). I'm not sure of the timber, but it's really a striking pen with lots of character. I also received some very nice blanks including some really pretty curly koa.

EDIT: I talked with Stacey, and he told me that the timber is koa.

Thanks so much Stacey!!:2tsup:

I talked to my domestic swap partner (Spanky239), and he told me to go ahead & post what I sent him since he's having internet problems at home right now.

It's african blackwood with bloodwood scallops & finial with an accent ring. I didn't take a picture of the blanks I sent him, so the picture of the pen will have to do. One thing I learned from doing scallops is to mark the direction of the grain of the scallop pieces. If not, they might finish a different color. If you look at the cap, you'll notice the scallop looks darker than the others. I'm pretty sure it's because I didn't line the grain up the same way. Just something I learned from doing this pen.

It was a first attempt at casting stamps and if that was his first go i cant wait to see what he can do in a few months time because this one was perfect. I would also like to thank him for the blanks as they are all new timbers to me and cant wait to make them into pens.

What a great Easter suprise; I recieved my first ever swap pen in the mail today from Dave in the UK.

What an outstanding pen Dave! My excellent crafted pen is a Senior Gent with chrome fittings. The body and cap are made from Pau Rosa with laminates of Purple Heart and African Blackwood. The Purple Heart laminates have been cut and oriented so that both end and side grain are visible and can give a pearlescent effect according to how the light strikes it. Seperating the wooden laminates are shims of brass between the Purple Heart and nickel silver between the Blackwood. The section end of the body has an end cap of Blackwood separated with nickel silver shim, with the top of both cap and body having a thicker brass collar at the ends. The pen has been finished with multiple coats of CA then several coates of carnuba wax, with a final coat of renaissance wax to give a soft sheen.

Dave also included a gift for my partner - a slimline made of plum with a walnut centre band and chrome fittings. He didnt stop there sending me some awesome native English timber blanks: Ash, Spalted Beech, Sycamore, Burr Elm, Yew, Cherry, Laburnham and Cypress.

Thanks Dave, its been great being your swap partner.261038261032261033261034261036261035261037

Now I know that Dave has received the pen I made for him I can post some pics up as I know he hasn't posted yet.
The pen I made for Dave was a Pristina wrapped in Birds Eye Huon Pine. I finished the pen with 10 coats of CA followed by a Wet Look polish. The end result speaks for it self.

Hey Rumnut,
I really like that pen kit and I am interested to know what it is like to write with comfort wise?
If you could let me know that would be great,

Cheers Ben

The final chapter came about for my swap this year, I received a package from Stacey in Hawaii with a beautiful segmented pen, made from Curly Koa and white resin (?), along with some great looking blanks. I don't have any of these timbers in my collection until now.
I am intrigued about the blue one on the right hand side of the 2nd pic, I am guessing its dyed and stabilised timber of some sort. Hopefully Stacey will chime in, and let us know what it is.

Hey Paul, the Panache is a nice looking pen, and lends itself to being quite broad in the hand reducing rapidly at the transition to the nib (similar to the Vertex).
I find it OK although I have only drivennit breifly, but SHMBO wasn't comfortable with it (which means she leave it alone). Hope this helps.
