If Pat ever hands you a bit of wood always ask what grade of concrete its is :p

Quite some time ago he handed me a beaut bit of Tassie Blackwood 10" round and 7/8" high blank turned down to 6"dia x 5" due to darn worm holes. Lid is Black Heart Sassafras Thanks for the experience of turning concrete. This has a couple of coats of Danish oil for now. Lid is a very tight fit.

I had to get in and rescue this as those damn little worms were enjoying the restaurant in the cambian layer (so I thought). After a plastic bag and spray can worth of bug killer and left for weeks I was still getting fine powder. So into a bath of soapy water for a week, drain well and then into the microwave for 20 mins on high on and off for 5min at a time. I am hoping that will take care of the little beggers.

It my have if I had not needed to make the male bit smaller in height and the overlapping thickness enough to allow a thread to be cut on the pot.

One day Jim plenty wood in the shed yet.

Mmmmm, Nuked Lil' Beggers, do they go best with fries or mash?

So what did you hollow it with, a jack-hammer?

Wonder if the little buggers are mutating to put up with that sort of treatment. Sooner or later zapping is going to be the final push and we'll really be in trouble.:D
Looks good.

Sorry fellas, but I don't like it!

I'm rarely critical but to me that is just plain ugly.

Apologies for any offense.

Good job Ray.
I think the easiest way to deal with little critters in the wood , is to seal the piece in a plastic bag then put it in the freezer for a week . I have been suprised how long little bugs can survive the microwave.

Thanks Ted
Freezer we have now is not big enough......will have to in fture speak nicely to daughter who has the old Tucker Box freezer.
I don't mind admitting I am still concerned as can be seen on the photo the remains of their travels those dots and that damn dark line Its sitting here on my desk while DO is drying then I will see where it goes from there.

It had 3 design changes during turning only none of those was due to anything I did all down to voids and worm holes.

That was a bonus Ray by getting the worms.

No good asking for chips to go with it, you need
to sharpen your chisel a little more mate as you
are only getting dust at the moment.:D

Not sure what the problem is - a little bit of protein with your turning :C

I agree with Artme a tad - I think the hat doesn't go with the base.

My wife has a number of ginger jars and this work is reminiscent of the earlier ones. Perhaps that is why I like it - the shape is familiar to me.
