Jacaranda natural edge ( Jacaranda mimosifolia not indigenous ) on a tripod of dowel rods with beads of beech and wild olive. The inside is stained a midnight blue and the whole piece sprayed with water bourn varnish. Vase is 12 1/2:”( 315mm) tall and 71/2” (190mm) wide and wall 5-6mm thick, total height with tri pod 42” (1065mm) C/C welcome Regards Roger Courtney

That's a unique looking piece of work there. The addition of the inner colour has given it a whole new effect as it's more normal to colour the outside.

That sort of colour did you use, I ask as I find some (generally spirit) stains bleed through the thin walled vessels and can affect the (in my case) inner finish.

Thanks Drillit and dr4g0nfly for the comments appreciated. First I apply 10 plus coats of blond shellac with a small spray gun then the stain which are oxides that I mix with clear methylated spirits and blond shellac then spray on and finish with the water based varnish. Regards Roger

Very nice, I like it a lot. Well done Roger, thanks for sharing it with us. It's interesting to see what is happening in other countries and there seems to be slightly different influences at play with your work.

Oxide Stains, never heard of them in the UK (well not under that name) - one to explore sometime.

Thanks for the comments Ian and Jim. Dragonfly the oxides were bought at our local steel works surplus store years ago and are most likely iron oxides. I to was in the forces 30 plus years now self employed Regards Roger
