View Full Version : Banksia Freeform - Finally finished

I started this a long time ago an posted it as a 'part finished' project.

It started as 'Can I hollow a Banksia pod?' The answer was yes. But then what to do with it? A need to fill the hollowing hole lead to a lid and because I like them, it had to have a finial. but to make it 'different' I made it in two parts, separated by a glass bead.

The wife eventually spotted some Flower Arrangers 'Driftwood', that worked but it needed something more. A UK Turner (Mark Sanger) adding disparate items as 'part of the whole' seemed to fit - but what? I tried many items, some I'd turned, some natural, some even industrial, I was never that happy with the effect...

...then last weekend I spotted the Cone shell with markings that reflected the seed holes in the pod - I'd found the thing it wanted, and it worked,

Comments & Critiques as you will please, and thanks for looking.

A very nice arrangment. The 3 forms go very well together. I say that because I like to work with driftwood as well.

Thank you all for your comments, it is my first 'artistic' piece even if the turning is only a small part of the overall effect.
so the white one is the core out of the dark one! fantastic! very material conscious! seriously it looks great!Oreos, I'd not thought of it that way consciously, but I think I'll steal your explanation, thanks.
