Say someone else turn a similar one to this and had a piece of trunk laying about and wanting to turn one it gave me the incentive to have a go and turn this.
I was told the wood was Hawthorne it stand 5" tall and 4 1/2" across.

Enjoyed making the first one that I had to make another and I still have 3 more blanks already rough turned.

This one made from the same hawthorne and is 5 " tall and 5" across.

DD, that is a very nice pair of turnings you have there! Hawthorn is a lovely wood to turn. I have only ever turned small bits of it and have always been impressed by it.

Those pieces are bits to be proud of mate! I'll bet the sanding made you concentrate!!

Darn they are very pretty pieces especially the second one. A formal style with a natural edge, very well done. :2tsup:

Thank you all for the comments. They were fun turning fingers are all there counted them after I finished did a lot of sanding while it was stationary some very fine tool control help leave a good finish which kept the sanding down to a minimum.

Did have 3 more pieces to turn but 2 of them decided that they did not want to be natural edge forms 1 was a slip with the tool and the second bits broke off which spoiled what could be done with it and therefore could not be rescued. :no::doh::~

Well that leaves just one piece so rough shaped the outside and put some superglue on a few suspect areas. Will try and get it completed tomorrow:;

Brilliant. The only fault I can find is that they wouldn't hold a full cup of wine:C.

No just joking. I really like them:2tsup::2tsup::2tsup:
